Two Statkraft solar projects successful in renewables auction
Sheepwash and Stargoose have both been awarded UK Government contracts in Allocation Round 6
Statkraft, Europe’s largest generator of renewable energy, has been awarded two contracts, in Allocation Round 6 of the UK Government’s Contracts for Difference (CfD) auction.
CfDs are 15-year agreements, backed by the Government, which guarantee a fixed price for the power generated by a renewable asset. This allows developers of projects to plan with greater certainty, and if electricity prices are above the price set, then developers pay the excess back to energy suppliers, which should help to cut the cost of consumer bills.
Two of Statkraft’s UK solar projects were successful in the recent auction round: Stargoose Solar Farm, in Cambridgeshire, and Sheepwash Solar Farm in Kent.
This latest renewables auction has seen 133 green infrastructure projects awarded contracts, which would power the equivalent of 11 million homes. The UK Government say this is the biggest auction to date, exceeding the 92 projects delivered under AR5 in 2023.
Charlotte Healey, Statkraft’s Head of Solar, said: “We’re pleased that we’ve been awarded funding for two solar projects, which when built will generate enough clean energy to power the equivalent of almost 30,000 homes.
“Solar is the quickest and lowest impact route to generating clean power, improving energy security and lowering homeowner bills.”
