‘Best Engagement’ nomination for Statkraft at Scottish Green Energy Awards
Statkraft has been recognised for work on the Loch na Cathrach Pumped Storage Hydro project, located near Loch Ness
Statkraft, Europe’s largest generator of renewable energy, has been shortlisted in the ‘Best Engagement’ category at the Scottish Green Energy Awards. This recognition is for work on the Loch na Cathrach Pumped Storage Hydro project, located near Loch Ness.
The 450MW project, acquired by Statkraft in late 2023, will play a vital role in supporting the UK’s clean energy transition by storing excess renewable energy for use during periods of low generation or high demand. Statkraft's commitment to meaningful engagement with local communities and stakeholders has been central since the project’s acquisition.
Statkraft has helped to fund a Community Action Plan locally, commissioned a Supply Chain Research report with the University of the Highlands and Islands, which will highlight opportunities for local businesses to work with the Loch na Cathrach project, and is planning further engagement that includes delivering community benefit funds.
Alison Hood, Head of Engagement and Social Value at Statkraft, said: “Our good neighbour ethos, to bring value to communities where we have operations, guides everything that we do at Statkraft. From day one, we’ve focused on building trust and fostering positive relationships with the local community and stakeholders. This nomination reflects our commitment to engaging transparently and collaboratively, ensuring that the benefits of this project are felt locally and beyond.”
The Scottish Green Energy Awards, hosted by Scottish Renewables, celebrate the achievements of Scotland’s renewable energy industry. Winners will be announced during a ceremony in Edinburgh on 5 December 2024.
